SCRCR Dashain Tihar celebration
Colourful celebrations at SCRCR during the Dashain and Tihar festive season

The Senior Citizen Recreation Center Rupandehi came alive with colour, music, and joy as members, staff, and volunteers gathered to celebrate the festival season of Dashain and Tihar. The annual cultural program — one of the most cherished events in the SCRCR calendar — brought together over 100 participants for a day of traditional festivities, performances, and togetherness.

Highlights of the Celebration

  • Tika and Jamara ceremony — Elders received tika from younger volunteers in a touching display of respect and blessing
  • Deusi-Bhailo performances — Members sang traditional Tihar folk songs and performed deusi-bhailo rounds throughout the center
  • Bhajan and devotional singing — A soulful bhajan session led by senior members filled the hall with spiritual energy
  • Traditional feast — A festive meal with sel-roti, achar, and traditional sweets was shared by all attendees
  • Cultural dance performances — Volunteers performed traditional dances to the delight of the senior audience

The Spirit of the Celebration

For many of our members, festivals can be a time of loneliness — separated from family or living alone. At SCRCR, we ensure that no senior citizen misses the warmth of celebration. This year’s event was especially meaningful: members dressed up, sang, and laughed together as one community, proving that family is not only blood — it is also the bonds we build with one another.

A Word of Thanks

We are deeply grateful to all volunteers, donors, and community members who contributed food, decorations, and their time. Special thanks to the SCRCR executive committee for their tireless effort in organising the event. We look forward to many more joyful gatherings in the months ahead.
